2022년 7월 27일On August 14, 1991, Kim Hak-soon came forward to share her experiences as a Japanese military “comfort woman.” To remember the courageous testimony of Kim Hak-soon and to work for human rights and dignity of all victims, organizations working for resolution of the Japanese military sexual slavery issue proclaimed August 14 as the International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women” at the 11th Asian Solidarity Conference for Resolution of the Japanese Military “Comfort Women” Issue in 2012. This year, we commemorate the 10th International Memorial Day.

Join us for International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women” Events/Campaigns!
1. Participate in International Action
- To commemorate the 10th International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women,” we aim to gather various events hosted by domestic and international organizations in solidarity and promote them as International Action for the 8.14 Memorial Day. We also plan to introduce those organizations as joint hosts in the 8.10 Wednesday Demonstration Statement. (You can opt to co-sign to the statement without running an event.)
- Fill out this Google Form by August 4th, denoting your plans for your 8.14 Memorial Day event, which will take place either during 8.14 Memorial Day week (8/9~8/15) or during August. You can also just indicate that you would like your organization to be listed in the statement.

2. Register to receive Exhibit Panel on 10th International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women”
The Korean Council for Justice and Remembrance for the Issues of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan created an exhibit panel on why we should remember the Japanese military sexual slavery issue together in light of the 10th International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women.” The 10-page panel covers historical denialists interfering with the Wednesday Demonstration that has continued for over 30 years to seek justice on the issue and the global network of historical denialism across Korea, Japan, and the United States. The panel will inspire readers to face history together and remember the courage of victims against historical denialists who attempt to erase history. Furthermore, the panel features multimedia sources easily accessible via QR codes.

3. Send Solidarity Video Message

- Format: 30- to 60-seconds long, MP4 file
- Subtitles: Please send your text in a Word document so that we can create Korean and Japanese subtitles
- Please send the video message(s) to the Korean Council’s email ([email protected]) by August 4th KST.
4. Participate in the Butterfly Festival on August 14
- Time/Place: August 14th at 5:00 p.m., in front of the Cheonggyecheon Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation
- Performances: Singing and dancing
- Booths: Quizzes, Photo Exhibitions, Videos, etc.
- Summary: The Butterfly Festival, which will take place on August 14th at Cheonggye Plaza and commemorate the 10th International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women,” will be made up of colorful performances and many booths. We hope that you will enjoy the performances and participate in the prepared booths, and that the festival will be an opportunity to contemplate the meaning of the “Comfort Women” Memorial Day!

6. Participate in Erect a Virtual Statue of Peace SNS Campaign

Commemorate the 10th #InternationalMemorialDayforComfortWomen by erecting a virtual Statue of Peace in your surroundings! The Korean Council invites you to participate in a SNS campaign using AR #PlaceforPeace project created by Berlin-based graphic designer Hojin Kang(@hojinkangdotcom).
