- Janggok Middle School Students at Wednesday Demonstration
At the 1365th and 1366th Wednesday Demonstrations, students from Janggok Middle School shared drawings and poems to remember the Japanese military sexual slavery victims’ activism that they learned about.
The students also delivered 2,034,510 won to support the resolution of the Japanese military sexual slavery issue.
We thank the Janggok Middle School students for their continued support and for seeing the Japanese military sexual slavery issue through historical and gender perspectives.

- Sinneung Middle School Students
On December 11th and 18th, Sinneung Middle School donated 713,620 won to the Hands in Hands with 200,000 Japanese Military Sexual Slavery Victims campaign.
In 2017, Sinneung Middle School donated fund from selling hand-made badges after learning about the Japanese military sexual slavery issue at school. Students continued the solidarity with the victims through selling hand-made badges and promoting the issue of Japanese military sexual slavery through running a booth during the school festival.

- Obituary for Lee Gui-nyeo halmoni
On December 14th, 2018, Lee Gui-nyeo halmoni who stayed in a nursing hospital in Yongin passed away. Halmoni was born in Cheongju, Chungcheongbukdo in 1926. When she was 17 or 18 years old, the head of the village said she can earn a lot of money in China. Her mother replied that halmoni should stay and get married, but the head of the village told her that she can always come back.

- BTS Fan club 'Army' Donates Winter Goods for Halmonies
On Sunday, December 16th, the BTS fan club ‘Army’ donated winter goods to support the victims of Japanese military sexual slavery. ‘Army’ organized a fundraising event with fans from Korea, the U.S., Japan, Europe, and Central/South America from November 9th to November 30th.
‘Army’ shared that it was the fans’ wish to support halmonies through the cold winter. ‘Army’ also promised to continue to stand in solidarity with the victims.

- Statue of Peace in Gyeonggi-do Assembly
On December 14th, the Gyeonggi-do Assembly unveiled the Statue of Peace.
It is the first Statue of Peace to be installed in local government, and the members of the assembly played an important role to establish the statue.
Yoon Mee-hyang, representative of the Korean Council, gave a congratulatory speech.
The Statue of Peace gave an opportunity for everyone who attended to remember the Japanese military sexual slavery issue and think about the dignity and peace that every human being deserves.

- Halmonies in Seoul
The Korean Council visited two halmonies in Seoul.
Yoon halmoni pulled out a tooth recently. Her face was a bit swollen and she had pain in the cheek, yet she was more energetic than usual.
Her daughter made vegetable juice and cut apples, and halmoni told us that apples are much tastier than vegetable juice. Halmoni loves the color white, so she only eats food that are white and tells others to do so as well.

- Poem from Dian Lestariningsih in Indonesia
Ms. Dian Lestariningsih, from Indonesia, participated in the Wednesday Demonstrations held in Korea several times.
Singing the Wednesday Demonstration opening song “Like A Rock” and learning about the stories of halmonies encouraged her to share her feelings and thoughts through poems.
In “I Feel You”, she expressed understanding for halmonies,
In “Thank You”, she expressed gratitude for halmonies’ courage.
We hope that all of us can read the beautiful poems and think about each of us can do to stand in solidarity with halmonies.

- Woolim Middle School students visited the Korean Council!
Denial does not rewrite history.
The Japanese Government must apologize to the Japanese military ‘comfort women’ halmonies as soon as possible.

At the 1365th Wednesday Demonstration on December 12th, students and teachers of Woolim Middle School visited Seoul.
Woolim Middle School donated 2,000,000 won from selling self-designed products at the Japanese military ‘comfort women’ memorial booth that they organized during a school bazaar with the local community on November 16th.

December 3rd, 2018, KCOC and KOICA held 2018 Humanitarian Policy Forum - Humanitarian Asistance and Gender Violence in Conflict and Vulnerable Situations, to seek for comprehending key issues and systems of international community on preventing and resolving the Gender Based Violence in humanitarian crisis, reflect on Rohingya refugee crisis to find outcomes and challenges, and find how experience and lessons of Korean women’s movements responding to Conflict Related Sexual Violence(CRSV) can contribute to the international society.

- Obituary for Kim Soon-ok halmoni

Kim Soon-ok halmoni passed away around 9am on December 5th, 2018.
Kim Soon-ok halmoni was born in Pyongyang in 1922. To help her family, she worked since she was 7 years old.
When she was 20 years old, she was told that she can work at a factory and earn money. She was taken to China with 30~40 women and suffered from sexual slavery in Heilongjiang, China.

- Gil Won-ok halmoni's 90th Birthday

Gil Won-ok halmonis’ 90th birthday party was held on November 30th, 2018.
Gil Won-ok halmoni wore a beautiful set of hanbok and welcomed everyone. People from the Korean Council, War and Women’s Human Rights Museum, Marymond, Yonsei University Health System Trade Union, Gyeonggi Coalition for Statue of Peace, individual volunteers at Peaceful Our Home, Media Mongu, and Newstapa attended the event to celebrate Gil Won-ok halmoni.
