Statement on the Removal of Statue of Peace in the Philippines
The Korean Council demands the Japanese Government to terminate its actions to erase the history and make official apology and legal reparations to the Japanese military sexual slavery victims!
The Statue of Peace established in San Pedro City on December 28th, 2018, was removed after the Japanese Embassy remonstrated against it on December 30th. The Statue of Peace in San Pedro City was established through the participation of the Mayor of San Pedro City, the former Mayor of Jecheon City in South Korea, and citizens.

- Sinneung Middle School Students
On December 11th and 18th, Sinneung Middle School donated 713,620 won to the Hands in Hands with 200,000 Japanese Military Sexual Slavery Victims campaign.
In 2017, Sinneung Middle School donated fund from selling hand-made badges after learning about the Japanese military sexual slavery issue at school. Students continued the solidarity with the victims through selling hand-made badges and promoting the issue of Japanese military sexual slavery through running a booth during the school festival.

- Statue of Peace in Gyeonggi-do Assembly
On December 14th, the Gyeonggi-do Assembly unveiled the Statue of Peace.
It is the first Statue of Peace to be installed in local government, and the members of the assembly played an important role to establish the statue.
Yoon Mee-hyang, representative of the Korean Council, gave a congratulatory speech.
The Statue of Peace gave an opportunity for everyone who attended to remember the Japanese military sexual slavery issue and think about the dignity and peace that every human being deserves.

On September 22nd, the Korean Council participated in the 4th Conference on World War II in the Philippines, which was organized by the Bataan Legacy Historical Society to educate the war crimes of the Japanese Imperial Military to the younger generation and to remember and restore the victims’ human rights.
The Korean Council had the opportunity to listen to the experiences of teachers who educated the issues of war crimes, watched videos created by students on the Japanese military sexual slavery issue and Bataan Death March, and to discuss ways to educate the war crimes of the Japanese Imperial Military during the World War II.

With the Bataan Legacy History Society, the Korean Council conducted a mini symposium on the war crimes during the World War II at the Golden Gate University School of Law on September 21st.
Cecilia Gaerlan, founder and executive director of the Bataan Legacy History Society, explained the Japanese military’s war crimes of the Bataan Death March and the movement to have the California State Board of Education to include the history of World War II in the Philippines in the U.

On September 18th, Yoon Meehyang, representative of the Korean Council, gave a special speech at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors had passed a resolution to install a memorial to honor the Japanese military ‘comfort women’ victims on September 22nd, 2015, which led to the actual installation on September 22nd, 2017.
SFSU profess Eric Mar, who served as a member of the board back in 2015, had proposed the resolution.
