- December Visits to Halmonies
On December 20th and 21st, the Korean Council visited halmonies in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, Jeollanam-do for the last time in 2018.
On December 20th, we arrived to Pohang first. Although we urged halmoni not to come out to greet us in such a cold weather, she was waiting for us outside. She told us that someone from the city government visited her. We sat down in her room and showed her the gifts that the Korean Council and citizens prepared, from rice, meat, warm jackets, socks, cooking oils, to cosmetics.

- Obituary for Lee Gui-nyeo halmoni
On December 14th, 2018, Lee Gui-nyeo halmoni who stayed in a nursing hospital in Yongin passed away. Halmoni was born in Cheongju, Chungcheongbukdo in 1926. When she was 17 or 18 years old, the head of the village said she can earn a lot of money in China. Her mother replied that halmoni should stay and get married, but the head of the village told her that she can always come back.

- BTS Fan club 'Army' Donates Winter Goods for Halmonies
On Sunday, December 16th, the BTS fan club ‘Army’ donated winter goods to support the victims of Japanese military sexual slavery. ‘Army’ organized a fundraising event with fans from Korea, the U.S., Japan, Europe, and Central/South America from November 9th to November 30th.
‘Army’ shared that it was the fans’ wish to support halmonies through the cold winter. ‘Army’ also promised to continue to stand in solidarity with the victims.

- Halmonies in Seoul
The Korean Council visited two halmonies in Seoul.
Yoon halmoni pulled out a tooth recently. Her face was a bit swollen and she had pain in the cheek, yet she was more energetic than usual.
Her daughter made vegetable juice and cut apples, and halmoni told us that apples are much tastier than vegetable juice. Halmoni loves the color white, so she only eats food that are white and tells others to do so as well.

- Obituary for Kim Soon-ok halmoni

Kim Soon-ok halmoni passed away around 9am on December 5th, 2018.
Kim Soon-ok halmoni was born in Pyongyang in 1922. To help her family, she worked since she was 7 years old.
When she was 20 years old, she was told that she can work at a factory and earn money. She was taken to China with 30~40 women and suffered from sexual slavery in Heilongjiang, China.

- Gil Won-ok halmoni's 90th Birthday

Gil Won-ok halmonis’ 90th birthday party was held on November 30th, 2018.
Gil Won-ok halmoni wore a beautiful set of hanbok and welcomed everyone. People from the Korean Council, War and Women’s Human Rights Museum, Marymond, Yonsei University Health System Trade Union, Gyeonggi Coalition for Statue of Peace, individual volunteers at Peaceful Our Home, Media Mongu, and Newstapa attended the event to celebrate Gil Won-ok halmoni.

- Eonju Middle School #0814 Students

14 students of a student club called #0814 at Eonju Middle School in Gangnam, Seoul, visited Peaceful Our Home and donated 1,100,000 won to the Hand in Hand with 200,000 Japanese Military Sexual Slavery Victims Fundraising Campaign on November 9th. The students created badges to remember the Japanese military sexual slavery issue and stand in solidarity with halmonis until the Japanese government gives formal apology and legal reparations.

Ha Jeom-yeon halmoni was born in Hadong, Gyeongsangnamdo in 1922. When she was 15 years old, she went to her sister’s house in Osaka, Japan, to help her look after her nephew. After 5 months, she was crying in front of the house because she missed her mother back home.
